Neil Gaiman’s ‘The Sandman’ Is Being Adapted For TV

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting today that Neil Gaiman ‘s amazing comic book series The Sandman is being in the early stages of development for TV . The worrisome news is that Gaiman is NOT involved with the project at this early stage … tho, that may change a bit down the line as development continues. The good news is that Warner Bros. is the studio who is planning to bring The Sandman to TV and that HBO will be the network to air the series: “The Sandman,” the Neil Gaiman-penned comic book series considered a seminal work in the medium, is in the early stages of being developed into a TV series. Warner Bros. TV is in the midst of acquiring television rights from sister company DC Entertainment and is in talks with several writer-producers about adapting the 1990s series. At the top of the list is Eric Kripke, creator of the CW’s horror-tinged “Supernatural.” “Sandman” told the tale of Morpheus, the Lord of the Dreaming, a deity who personifies dreams. The book began in the horror realm but quickly made its mark in fantasy and mythology as Gaiman introduced the Endless, a group of powerful brothers and sisters that includes Destiny, Death, Destruction, Despair, Desire and Delirium (as well as Dream). The book helped establish DC’s Vertigo imprint and won several awards. It also was one of the few comics that segued from the comics crowd, entering the intellectual and art worlds and winning over a large non-comics-reading audience, particularly via a devoted female following. A movie version of “Sandman” had been in development since the mid-’90s, with an early version involving Roger Avary. That cooled earlier in the decade, with the thinking that to the best way to tackle an adaptation is the TV route. At one point DC was in talks with HBO and James Mangold to develop a show without WBTV’s involvement, but that never coalesced. Gaiman was not officially involved with the HBO attempt, though he and Mangold held several rounds of talks surrounding characters and story. The author is not involved in the latest development, though because it is early in the process, that could change. Kripke has been described as interested in tackling an adaptation but cautious because the comic book has such a passionate following and is held in such high regard. It’s the kind of series where each production decision, from casting to script to design, would be scrutinized by devotees. This is very … good news, overall. I’m very encouraged at the way that Kripke has managed to keep Supernatural going for so long and that show deals pretty exclusively with fantasy themes. The Sandman is a vast treasure trove of material that, IMHO, will make for an outstanding TV series. I am a bit worried to hear that Neil Gaiman is not yet involved with the project … but if WB and HBO plan to make this show a smashing success, they MUST have Gaiman ‘s involvement. I am confident that at the very least Gaiman will be brought on as a consultant but I’m really hoping that he has the opportunity and time to be as involved with the series as possible. I recently re-read the entire Sandman comic book series and was reminded how wonderful a story it is. I would love to see the books adapted for TV in a real way … let’s see if they can do it right. Bravo TV has announced that the premiere season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills will debut on Bravo on Thursday October 14 and today gives us our first look at the cast of what promises to be the most superficial installment of the franchise yet. First Look: ‘Glee’ Actors On ‘The Simpsons’

A few Glee actors will be guest starring on the season premiere episode of The Simpsons when the long-running animated series returns this Fall. Lea Michelle ( Rachel ), Amber Riley ( Mercedes ) and Cory Monteith ( Finn ) have all provided voicework for the series and right now we get our first look at these actors as they will appear on The Simpsons : There’s a saying that you know you are famous when you’ve been turned yellow on “The Simpsons”. Some of “Glee” cast will exactly get this treatment when the Emmy-winning show returns this Fall on FOX. Several promo pictures have revealed which of the singing lots would be animated. Lea Michele’s Rachel Berry is one and Cory Monteith’s Finn is another. These two main characters will only be joined by their friend Amber Riley’s Mercedes. The actors behind the “Glee” characters have provided voice for the animated figures. The episode is called “Elementary School Musical” and it would be the first of season 22 which airs September 26. Marge sends Lisa to a performing arts camp where she gets hooked on her new, hip lifestyle. Once back in Springfield, all Lisa can think about is returning. OMG … I love it! The new Fall season (which is only DAYS away) is really kicking off with a bang! We already know that Glee ‘s second ep of the new season will be the Britney Spears ep and now we learn that the season premiere ep of The Simpsons will be the Glee ep. LOOOOOVE IT! ‘Glee’ Season 2 Releases A First Batch Of Character Promo Photos

Yesterday we got to check out a batch of promo photos released for the second season of the hit CW TV series The Vampire Diaries . Today we get to see a similar batch of photos released for the second season of hit Fox TV series Glee along with some deets about the season 2 premiere ep titled Auditions … behold: Individual posters of “Glee” cast are done and released. There is nothing special from the new pictures since they use the same theme as last year, which is colorful backgrounds. However, something is new with Rachel Berry’s hairstyle for she grows a bang. “Glee” returns to FOX September 21 at 8/7c with the first episode being “Auditions”. In the second season opener, some new faces challenge old ones in Glee club auditions. Meanwhile new and old relationships leave some happy and others alone … it looks like previously-announced guest actor Chord Overstreet is going to be Kurt’s boyfriend. E! Online dug out the information from Jane Lynch who said the boyfriend is a “good-looking kid” who’s “tall, boyish with straight blond hair and big fat, pouty lips.” The description matches that of Overstreet’s. Now, none of the new characters (including Chord Overstreet ) are featured in these individual character promo photos but all of our faves from season one are represented. Amy Winehouse Rubs Her Butt On A Defenseless Door Frame

At the start of the month we saw fairly tragic, yet par for the course, photos of Amy Winehouse lookin’ especially trainwrecky and then just a few days later, we saw that the girl managed to clean herself up for a night on the town . Since that last sighting, Amy has managed to keep a low profile … well, until last night. Amy was either feeling frisky or she just had a nasty itch that she just couldn’t reach so she decided to rub her butt up against a door frame as she was photographed by the paparazzi: As gross as it sounds, I honestly hope that Amy did have an itch to scratch cuz if she was actually trying to be sexy then she is far worse off that I imagined. I have no idea what heinous crime this door frame did to deserve this kind of punishment but I think it should be put out of its misery. In fact, a burning of the entire building might be in order. Britney Spears Is In The Pink In Hawaii

Our dear Britney Spears and her loverman Jason Trawick continue to enjoy a romantic getaway together on the island of Maui, HI and today we get to see new photos of the couple at their resort yesterday afternoon. As you can plainly see, Britney was rockin’ her hot pink bikini on day 3 of her Hawaiian holiday: Now there is a ridiculous rumor going around that Britwick are scouting out wedding chapels in Hawaii in order to supposedly get married. I’m here to tell you with almost 100% certainty that that is not the case. It turns out that Britney and Jason are staying at the same resort hotel that David and I stayed at earlier this month when we were in Maui . The resort has a small wedding chapel situated at the center of the resort so that folks who want to get hitched in Maui can do so. The rumors going around are that Britney and Jason were checking out the chapel for themselves. Because the chapel is in the middle of the resort, everyone has to pass it on the way to the pool or to the beach … my guess is that Britwick were merely walking past the chapel, were photographed and VOILA! Our hotel room actually faced the ocean and the wedding chapel: I passed it everyday and not once was I scoping it out for a wedding ceremony. Britney and Jason may not have been checkin’ out the chapel but they were deffo making use of the pool area. Check out a few photos of our dear Britney in her pink bikini as she soaked up some sun … I love these photos! I know exactly where Britney is … she’s at the adult only pool where kids are not allowed to swim. She got that drink in her hand from the countless waitstaff on hand there to ensure that you never get thirsty. Betty White Features In A New Video Promo For ‘Community’

Betty White , THE hottest actress in Hollywood right now, will be appearing as a guest star on the season 2 premiere of the NBC comedy series Community and today we get our first look at a cute but short promo video for the show which features our dear Betty : The little comedy gag that Betty does in the clip focuses on her mistaken belief that she will be guesting on Glee instead of Community … yes, this is the part where you’re supposed to laugh.
