CSI to Lose Marg Helgenberger After Season 11

July 28, 2010 by Sebastin · Leave a Comment

Originally reluctant to appear in more than ten seasons of CSI , Marg Helgenberger recently signed a new contract to return for the procedural’s eleventh season and she tells TVGuide.com that the financial ramifications of her divorce had a great deal to do with her decision as she feels the need to build up her savings. She also wasn’t quite ready to let go of Catherine or her co-workers. In negotiating the new contract, producers wanted Helgenberger to commit to more than one season while she asked to appear in only thirteen episodes and be done shooting by Christmas. A compromise of nineteen episodes was reached and Helgenberger says “I’m thinking of this as my last nineteen episodes.” As for what’s ahead for Catherine, Helgenberger teased that she would have a love scene with Alex Carter, who plays Catherine’s boyfriend, and that “We’re going to get into what’s left of the casino Catherine inherited from her father, some of it told in flashback. This could possibly lead to Catherine’s exit.” She also says “I certainly would not want to die and have my body autopsied. Nor would the fans.” The season premiere of CSI , guest starring Justin Bieber , will air Thursday September 23 at 9 pm.

THE BIG BANG THEORY Comic Con 2010 panel reserved fans of the show a pretty big surprise. If the panel being moderated by Wil Wheaton was not good enough already, they brought the Barenaked Ladies on stage to perform The Big Bang Theory theme song live with a sing-along from the audience. It was pretty insane! Check out the Barenaked Ladies performance below. Click Any Photo Below To Enlarge You can find all our Comic Con 2010 coverage here .

The series will kicks off with a thrilling pace as the citizens of Caprica deal with the chaotic aftermath of the mid-season finale’s harrowing events. THE WALKING DEAD Comic Con 2010 Panel

July 27, 2010 by Sebastin · Leave a Comment

I went to the panel for AMC’s upcoming zombie series THE WALKING DEAD (an adaptation of the comic book series) at Comic-Con 2010 without any idea what it was about. After an hour of listening to the cast and creators, as well as watching the preview not once, but twice (well, really it was four times if you count the other two times I watched it at their booth), it quickly became my favorite panel this year and I am now practically beside myself with anticipation for this series. It looks absolutely, positively fantastic! The panel featured cast members Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden and Emma Bell as well as series creator/director/executive producer Frank Darabont, executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and Robert Kirkman, makeup artist Greg Nicotero and AMC’s senior VP Joel Stillerman. Highlights from The Walking Dead Comic Con 2010 panel… A couple of people came dressed as very realistic zombies, stumbled their way towards seats in the front and appeared to make the cast a bit nervous. The show will premiere as part of a global launch in October, being shown in multiple languages and countries at the same time. A comic originally, the creators promised that The Walking Dead will be bold for television but also that it will be very character based. They held a “zombie school” in Atlanta before auditions but didn’t teach any of the actors how to play a zombie as Robert Romero once said that if you did that, you’d end up with a bunch of zombies who walked exactly the same. So instead they would simply line up prospective zombies and call out “Action!”, then watch to see who had natural zombie talent. The seasons will be shot like six, one hour movies. It will stay true to the comic book, but also branch off in other directions. They announced that Michael Rooker had just been added to the cast and everyone in the audience cheered when he stood up to take a bow from his seat in the front row. Andrew Lincoln (who plays the lead character, Rick Grimes) had never heard of the comic before he got the role but as soon as he did, he read them all and loved them. Sarah Wayne Callies kept forgetting to talk into the microphone, prompting everyone else from the cast to slide theirs over until there was an entire fleet in front of her. Sarah remarked that working on The Walking Dead has ruined her life as she’d always been too scared to see horror movies and now was often plagued by nightmares. The show is shot in Atlanta as that is where the comics are based. The cast joked that the heat there was so bad that all of them were on “the AMC diet”. The makeup is so good that when they break for lunch, no one ever wants to eat with the zombies. Jon Bernthal spoke very highly of Andrew, praising him both as an actor and a person and saying that playing the conflicts between their characters was hard as they had become such great friends off screen. Andrew Lincoln was brought nearly speechless by Jon’s praise but finally said that he loves everyone on the cast, but he and Jon were close and had dubbed each other “the Keystone Cops”. The creators said that they are toying with the idea of tapping well known horror directors for upcoming episodes. They are very happy with the treatment they have been getting from AMC, noting that the network is known for its cutting edge shows and so far they haven’t been asked to hold back on the horror and gore expected from a show about zombies. Composer Bear McCreary was sitting in the audience and brought on stage to talk about the music. He said that it will be scored like a drama, but will occasionally have the obvious musical cues often heard in horror movies. Click Any Photo Below To Enlarge (Photos Source: AMC Blog )

PLAIN JANE “Friend Zone Jane” Early Review

July 27, 2010 by Sebastin · Leave a Comment

This Wednesday, July 28th, The CW is premiering a new series called PLAIN JANE . It’s an hour-long reality show that airs at 9 pm ET. The concept is fairly simple: one lucky Plain Jane gets a complete make over with the help of host Louise Roe. Roe is probably best known for being a glamour TV presenter ( Britain’s Next Top Model ) as well as appearing several times on the hit reality series The City . After the Jane receives her makeover, her next task is to bag her prince charming and live happily ever after. I had the chance to check out the series premier episode, “Friend Zone Jane” a little early so I can tell you a little bit how the show now. I think most viewers will find Plain Jane to be similar to other reality shows like The Hills and High Society in that although it’s good entertainment, it’s obviously a little scripted. For example, at one point in the first episode Roe suggests they scope out the subject’s love interest, who just happens to be nearby playing basketball in the park. Also, I felt the Jane they chose for the first episode was already super cute. It felt like one of those romcoms where the nerdy girl takes off her glasses puts on a dress and a little mascara and is suddenly the new queen bee. Although this type of semi-scripted reality works great for some shows, I didn’t feel like it necessarily worked very well for Plain Jane . The best part of the show for me was the host Louise Roe who is basically like a modern day fairy godmother who takes you to Bloomingdales and hooks you up with the man of your dreams. Where was she when I was single? At the end of the show Roe arranged a meeting between the Plain Jane and her love interest/best friend. At this point in the show the complete makeover is revealed and we get to find out if she gets the boy or not. I’m not sure if all of the episodes of the series follow this format or just “Friend Zone Jane”. Basically the show came down to this (for me): Was it entertaining? Yes. Was the makeover good? Yes. Was the host good? Yes. Would I watch the show again? Probably not. Although everything was executed well on the show I had a hard time moving past the feeling of it being scripted. That’s just me though. I encourage you to check out Plain Jane this Wednesday at 9 pm ET on The CW. Then, leave me a comment and let me know what you thought of the show!
